In addition to taking its name from the multitude of oak trees scattered throughout the area, the City of Thousand Oaks benefits from their natural beauty. Thus, in 1970, the City Council passed an ordinance designed to protect and preserve the centuries-old trees. In fact, a permit must first be obtained from the Community Development Department, Planning Division to cut down, remove or move an oak tree within City limits.
