The mountains, valleys and ocean give Ventura County six different micro-climates, more than any other county in the nation, but all are generally dry and very comfortable. In coastal areas the Mediterranean-type climate is often described as the best in the world, with average annual temperatures of around 74 degrees, while further inland the effects of topography and elevation can cause considerable local variations. For example, Westlake Village has markedly warmer summer evening temperatures than neighboring cities. Conversely, beach fog commonly creeps into Newbury Park, keeping the area cooler than most of the Conejo Valley.
